Make itWhat the collection holds
- Colouring: one page carrying all twenty-six winter drawings, plus an easy set, a cute set, and single subject pages for snowmen, snowflakes, penguins, polar bears, arctic animals and New Year.
- Drawing lessons: six numbered steps on the first sheet and a page of practice boxes on the second, for a penguin, a snowman and a snowflake.
- Cut-outs: a snowman, a penguin and a bobble hat as plain outlines at three sizes, and a mixed craft sheet of four winter shapes with the thread hole marked on each.
- Puzzles: a winter word search, a New Year word search and a set of picture bingo cards with a caller sheet.
- Worksheets: counting, sums, tracing, matching, cut and paste and I spy, each with the option of an answer page.
Winter is not December
The colouring generator draws from a different pool on these pages. Ask it for a winter sheet and it offers snowmen, snowflakes, penguins, polar bears, snowy owls, seal pups, bobble hats, sleds, ice skates, snow globes, mugs of cocoa and robins. No tree, no stocking, no Santa. That single change is the whole difference between a winter sheet and a Christmas one, because a snowman belongs to both and everything else does not.
It matters more than it sounds. A class doing a weather topic in February wants a polar bear rather than a sleigh, and nobody printing something for a wet Tuesday in January wants to explain why the page is still talking about presents.
Where to start
For a child under five, the easy winter page is the shortest route. It offers only the simple drawing of each subject and it opens with the outlines already at their thickest, so there are no settings to work out before anything comes off the printer. For a child who can follow a line, the main winter colouring page puts all twenty-six drawings behind one control.
If you are filling an hour rather than a sheet, pair a drawing lesson with the matching colouring page. A child draws a penguin across six steps and then colours the finished penguin from the subject page, and the two together hold attention far longer than either does on its own.
Questions
- What makes a sheet a winter printable rather than a Christmas one?
- Whether it still makes sense in January. The winter sheets carry snowmen, snowflakes, arctic animals, hats, sleds and skates, and none of them shows a tree, a stocking or Santa.
- Are the winter printables free?
- Yes, all twenty-one of them. Nothing here asks for an account or an email address and no sheet carries a watermark. Print as many copies as a home, a class or a group needs.
- Can I use these in a school or a nursery?
- Yes. Unlimited printing for schools, nurseries, libraries, childminders and clubs is allowed. The only things you may not do are sell the sheets or put the files on another website.
- Do any of these sheets have a year printed on them?
- Only one drawing does. The numerals on the New Year colouring page are set with a year in them. The banner, the clock, the fireworks and the party sheets carry no date anywhere.
- What paper size do the winter sheets use?
- A4 or US Letter, chosen in the bar above the sheet on every tool. The layout is redrawn for the size you pick rather than cropped, so nothing falls off the bottom of a Letter page.
