The same winter subjects as the full page, with two decisions already made for you. The Picture list is cut to twelve, one simple drawing for each subject, and the line weight opens on Chunky instead of Standard. Nothing is taken away: the other two weights are still in the bar if the thickest outline turns out to be too heavy.
Twelve drawings instead of twenty-six
The full winter page carries a standard and a simple version of most subjects. This one keeps only the simple version of each: a snowman in a bobble hat, three snowflakes, a penguin, a polar bear, a snowy owl, a seal pup, a bobble hat, a sled, one ice skate, a snow globe, a mug of cocoa and a robin.
Cutting the list down is half the point of the page. Handing a four year old a control with twenty-six entries in it means a long scroll and a reasonable chance of a drawing they cannot finish. Twelve entries, every one of them built from a handful of large shapes, means they pick something and start.
What Chunky changes and what it does not
The outline weight does not change the drawing, only the thickness of its line. A thicker line eats into the shape from both sides, so the white gap between the scarf and the body on the snowman opens up, and colour that lands a few millimetres off still looks as though it was meant to.
That is also why the control is left on the page rather than removed. A six year old working in pencil usually wants Standard, and the same twelve drawings at Fine make a perfectly good sheet for an adult who wants something undemanding.
Printing a stack of them
Greyscale, one hundred percent scaling, Fit to Page switched off. On 80gsm copier paper these are fine for crayons and pencils. If felt tips are coming out, go up to 120gsm, because the large open areas on a simple drawing are exactly where marker ink soaks through to the table underneath.
Questions
- What age are the easy winter colouring pages for?
- Roughly two to six. The drawings are built from a handful of large shapes with wide gaps between them, and the page opens with the outlines already at their thickest setting.
- How is this different from the main winter colouring page?
- Same subjects, fewer drawings. This page offers only the simple version of each of the twelve winter subjects, and it starts on the Chunky line weight rather than Standard.
- Can I make the lines thinner?
- Yes. The Line weight control stays on the page and offers Standard and Fine as well. The drawing itself does not change, so the same twelve pictures suit an older child too.
- Are the easy winter sheets free to print?
- Yes, all twelve print and download free with no account and no watermark. Nurseries, childminders and schools may run off as many copies as they need.
