Make itPick the writing sheet by what the child can do
A child who can write sentences needs lined paper with a Dear Santa opening already printed. A child who is forming letters needs wider lines and fewer of them. A child who cannot write yet needs a picture box and a line for an adult to write what they dictated. Those are the three templates, and matching the right one to the child is most of the job.
All three keep the decorative border thin. Heavy borders eat the writing area and children end up cramming, which is the usual problem with free Santa letter printables.
The reply
Two letter from Santa templates: one you handwrite, and one you type the child's name and a few specifics into before printing. The typed version takes about two minutes and is noticeably more convincing, because it can mention the actual thing the child asked for and something only a family member would know.
If you handwrite it, do it in a pen you do not normally use and write in a slightly different hand. Children compare handwriting more carefully than adults expect.
Posting a letter to Santa
In the UK, Royal Mail publishes a Santa address and a cut-off date each year, usually in the first half of December, and a reply arrives if the child's name and address are included. In the US, the Postal Service runs a programme where letters sent to Santa get replies through volunteers. Both change details year to year, so check the current year rather than reusing last year's address.
Whichever route you use, write the child's own address on the letter itself as well as the envelope. Envelopes get separated from letters in volume.
Questions
- Which letter to Santa template should I use?
- Lined for a child writing sentences, unlined with wide guides for a child still forming letters, and the picture version for a child who cannot write yet and will draw instead.
- Can I get a letter back from Santa?
- Yes, two ways. Print one of the letter from Santa templates and write it yourself, or post the child letter through the national scheme, since Royal Mail in the UK and the US Postal Service both run reply programmes with a published cut-off date each year.
- Are the templates free?
- Yes, every template in this section prints free with no account and no watermark, in A4 or US Letter.
- What should go on the envelope?
- The current year Santa address from your national postal service, and the child full name and address, written on the letter as well as the envelope so a reply can still be sent if the two get separated.
