Why generated rather than downloaded
A normal printables site stores a few hundred finished PDFs and gives you the closest one. That means you take what you are given: one line weight, one size, one word list, one set of names. Generating the sheet instead means the word search can use your family's names, the template can be the size you actually need, and the colouring page can be heavy outlines for a three year old or fine ones for an adult.
It also means the files are vector rather than images, so they stay sharp at any size. A sheet drawn at A4 prints cleanly at A3 or A5 without the softening you get from scaling a picture.
Nothing leaves your device
The PDFs are built in your browser using a vendored copy of jsPDF. Names you type into a Santa letter, a gift tag or a place card are composed locally and never sent anywhere. There is no upload step, no server-side rendering and no file stored against your session.
That is partly a privacy decision and partly a practical one. Several tools here involve a child's name and age, which is not data that should travel.
How the site is paid for
Advertising on the pages, and nothing else. There is no premium tier, no paid pack, no affiliate linking and no email list. If a page recommends a paper weight it is because that weight works, not because somebody is paying for the mention.
Artwork and accuracy
Every drawing on the site is original. There are no licensed characters, no stock art and no clip art, which is deliberate: it keeps the licence permissive and keeps the sheets usable in schools that avoid branded characters.
Where a page states a fact, such as a postal service deadline or a paper weight, it is checked. Postal deadlines change annually, so those pages tell you to check the current year rather than printing a date that will be wrong by next December.
Questions
- Do I need an account to use ChristmasU?
- No. There is no account, no email signup and no download gate. Every tool works immediately and every PDF is free of watermarks.
- Are my typed names sent to a server?
- No. PDFs are built in your browser with a local copy of jsPDF, so names typed into a Santa letter, gift tag or place card never leave your device.
- Why are the printables generated rather than pre-made?
- So they can be changed. Generating a sheet lets you set the line weight, the size, the word list and the names, and produces vector output that stays sharp at any print size.
- How does the site make money?
- Advertising on the pages. There is no premium tier, no paid pack, no affiliate linking and no email list.
