Christmas Food Labels

Labels for a buffet table, a food gift or a jar: type the dish name, optionally add an allergen line, and print twelve to a sheet. Available as tent cards that stand next to a dish, flat labels for jars and lids, and small tags for a hamper.

The allergen line

Each label has an optional second line for allergens, set in smaller type. Typing in gluten, nuts, dairy or egg takes a second and saves several conversations across an evening, particularly at a buffet where the person who made the dish is not standing next to it.

This is a courtesy label for a home or office buffet, not a regulated food label. If you are selling food, your local food information rules will specify exactly what has to be declared and how, and a printable from a website is not that.

Three formats

Tent cards stand next to a dish and are the right choice for a buffet. Flat labels suit jar lids and gift boxes, sized at 60mm round or 70mm by 40mm rectangular. Small hamper tags have a punch hole and tie onto a bottle neck or a handle.

The tent cards need 200gsm to stand reliably in a warm room. The flat labels work on 160gsm, and on self-adhesive A4 sheets if you have them, though the generator does not assume any particular label product.

Jars and anything damp

An ordinary inkjet label on a jar of chutney will smudge the moment a wet hand touches it. If the jar is going to be handled or refrigerated, cover the label with clear tape across its whole face, which is the cheap version of laminating and is almost invisible.

Questions

Can I add allergens to the food labels?
Yes. Each label has an optional second line in smaller type for allergen information. It is a courtesy label for a home or office buffet, not a regulated commercial food label.
What formats are available?
Tent cards that stand next to a dish, flat labels at 60mm round or 70mm by 40mm for jars and lids, and small hamper tags with a punch hole for tying onto a bottle or handle.
Will the label survive a jar being handled?
Not on its own. Inkjet ink smudges when touched with a wet hand. Cover the label with clear tape across its whole face, which is nearly invisible and acts as cheap lamination.
What card weight do the tent cards need?
200gsm. Below that they lean, particularly in a warm room next to hot food.
