Christmas Labels

Rectangular labels laid out on a grid, each with a double rule round the edge, a small motif in the middle and a writing line underneath it. Twenty one to an A4 sheet at 60 by 35mm, or eight larger ones. There is a text box above the sheet where you can type the names, separated by commas, and they print onto the labels.

Labels, not tags

A gift tag hangs from a string and has a hole in it. A label is a flat rectangle that goes onto a flat surface, which is a different job: jam and chutney jars, biscuit tins, hamper contents, parcels going in the post, boxes of decorations coming out of the loft.

The grid matches the proportions of common sticker sheets, so the small size works on self-adhesive label stock as well as on plain paper with a glue stick. Check your sheet against the printed grid at 100 percent scaling before running a box of them.

Two sizes

Small puts twenty one on a page in three columns of seven, each 60mm wide and 35mm tall with a 48mm writing line. That is the size for jars, small tins and anything going in a hamper.

Large drops to eight in two columns of four, which gives room for a longer name, a date, or a line about what is in the jar as well as what it is. Large is also the easier one to write on with anything thicker than a fine pen.

Typing the names in

The Labels box above the sheet takes a comma separated list, and the placeholder shows the idea: mince pies, chutney, shortbread. The names are printed onto the labels in order, one each, starting at the top left, and they carry through to the downloaded PDF.

A short list fills the first few labels and leaves the rest blank, so three names on a twenty one label sheet gives you three printed labels and eighteen to write on. For a whole sheet of printed labels, type the name out as many times as you need it, separated by commas.

Questions

How many Christmas labels are on a sheet?
Twenty one at the small size, in three columns of seven, each 60 by 35mm. The large setting gives eight to a sheet in two columns of four, with more room to write on each.
Can I type the names onto the labels?
Yes. The Labels box above the sheet takes a comma separated list such as mince pies, chutney, shortbread. The names fill the labels in order, one each, and any label past the end of the list prints blank.
Will these print onto sticker sheets?
The small grid is drawn to the proportions of common sticker sheets, but brands vary. Print one test page at 100 percent scaling and hold it against your label stock before committing a whole box.
How are these different from the Christmas food labels?
The food labels are buffet tent cards that fold and stand up on a table, with an allergen line. These are flat rectangular labels for sticking to jars, tins, hampers and parcels.
