The six rounds
- Traditions and origins: where the familiar customs actually come from, and which ones are more recent than people assume.
- Food and drink: regional dishes, what goes in them, and which country eats what on which day.
- Carols and music: traditional carols, their origins and their words. Pairs with the music bingo cards if you want a listening round.
- Screen: festive films and television, written around plots and events rather than obscure cast trivia.
- Numbers and dates: counting questions, calendar questions and the occasional calculation.
- Picture round: twenty line drawings to identify, printed as its own sheet.
Pacing a quiz night
Ten questions per round and six rounds runs about ninety minutes with marking between rounds, which is the right length for a pub or an office evening. Swap sheets between teams after each round and read the answers out rather than marking centrally, because it keeps people involved and halves the work.
Put the picture round third or fourth, not first. It takes longer than people expect and works better once teams have settled.
The score grid
Teams down the left, rounds across the top, running total on the right. Printed at A3 it works as a wall sheet everyone can see, which is far better than a clipboard nobody trusts. Twelve team rows by default, up to twenty if you need them.
Questions
- How long does a six round Christmas quiz take?
- About ninety minutes with ten questions per round and marking between rounds. Cut to four rounds for an hour, or add a tie-break question for a close finish.
- What is included in the print?
- Six question sheets, an answer booklet, a picture round sheet and a score grid for up to twelve teams, all in one PDF.
- Can I choose which rounds to include?
- Yes. Pick the topics you want and the order they appear in, and the PDF is built to match. Any round you leave out simply is not printed.
- Where should the picture round go?
- Third or fourth. It takes longer than teams expect, so it works better once people have settled rather than as the opener.
