Christmas Tree Outline

One tree, one line, nothing inside it. Four tiers of branches with a short trunk at the foot, drawn as a single closed outline about 137mm wide and 216mm tall on A4. There are no interior branch lines, no baubles and no star, because everything this sheet is used for wants the middle left empty.

An empty silhouette does more jobs

A tree with branches drawn inside it is a colouring page. A tree with nothing inside it is a template: draw round it on felt, cut it out of card, fill it with tissue paper, stick a photograph in the middle, hand it to thirty children and get thirty different trees back.

The edges are drawn with that in mind. Each tier bows outwards slightly and the pinch between tiers is a shallow curve rather than a sharp notch, so every corner a child follows with scissors stays wider than a right angle.

Three sizes

Large is where it opens: one tree filling the page, which is the size for a display, a door, a tracing template or a sheet a small child can work on without frustration.

Medium drops to two trees on a sheet and Small to six. Six is the setting for a paper chain, a set of place markers, a batch of gift tags cut from card, or a group where everyone needs their own tree but nobody needs a large one.

How it differs from the other tree sheets

The Christmas tree template is a different shape: tiered pieces that slot together, with a cone and a three dimensional option. That is a construction kit. This one is a flat silhouette and nothing else.

The tree colouring pages give you five drawings with branches, baubles, pots and presents already on them. Use those when you want something to colour in, and this one when you want something to draw round.

Questions

How big is the Christmas tree outline?
About 137mm wide and 216mm tall on A4 at the large setting, which fills most of the page. Medium puts two on a sheet and Small puts six, for paper chains or small cut-outs.
Is there anything drawn inside the outline?
No. It is a single closed line with an empty middle, so it can be traced round, cut out, filled with tissue or collage, or used as a frame for a photograph or a handprint.
Will it cut out cleanly on card?
Yes. The tiers bow outwards and the pinch between them is a shallow curve rather than a sharp notch, so there is no corner tight enough to tear when a child is cutting it.
How is it different from the Christmas tree template?
The template is a tiered shape with slotting pieces and a three dimensional option, meant to be built. This is one flat silhouette with nothing inside it, meant to be traced, cut or decorated.
